21 Slackline Tricks (For Beginners & Pros)

Slackline tricks are an essential element to slacklining in style. This is also known as "tricklining". In this list we cover all the basics and slackline tricks for beginners, to the back-to-back-to-back front flips on a two-inch line for the pros. There are many common ones, yet that shouldn't stop you from learning and making your own.

For entertainment and inspiration, here a YouTube video showing the peak of what you can achieve with slacklining:

Slackline Tricks For Beginners

It's always a good idea to learn the basics first as a beginner. Many of these tricks are the building blocks for your slacklining journey. Here's our favorite slackline for those just getting started, and if you don't already own one:

1. Balance with feet sideways

Not necessarily a trick, yet a crucial skill to complete many other tricks. You place your feet sideways, and change your entire balancing stance.

2. Turning around

This involves turning your feet to create a pivot motion. Many techniques require a pivot to turn with your feet sideways.

3. Walking backwards

One foot behind the other. You slowly transfer your weight to the back of your heel and repeat the process.

4. Jump mount

Jumping forwards or backwards onto the line. You can either run and step forward to jump on with one foot or two. Some even find it easier to do backwards. A backwards hop can help for a more stable landing since you can learn forward to balance easier.

5. Bouncing

Use your body weight to cause the slackline to bounce you similar to a trampoline.

6. Jumping

Take bouncing to the next level by jumping up and down on the line.

7. Butt bounce

As shown in the YouTube video below, the butt bounce transfers your body from one side of the line to the other.

8. Chest bounce

Also shown in the YouTube video above, the chest bounce involves laying your chest forward and keeping your hand on the line for stability.

9. Folded arms

Walk across the line with your arms folded in front of you or behind your back.

10. Sitting down

Going from walking, you stop, crouch down, and sit down. Then you sit down on the line and balance. You can then do a sit start to get back up.

Advanced Tricks For Pros

What defines a trick as "advanced" depends on the person to be honest, although these slackline tricks typically involve a bit more physical prowess and skill.

11. Knee drop

Stopping on the line, you crouch down and drop one knee below the line.

12. Poses

You can perform a yoga pose on a slackline. It can be graceful, or even become a pure contortionist.

13. Slackline jumping

Jump from one slackline to the other across a gap.

14. Front flip

Front flip on the slackline in air and land back on the line.

15. Back flip

Back flip on the slackline in air and land back on the line.

16. Aerial rotation

Another type of flip, complete an aerial rotation and then land back onto the line.

17. Sit Start

One foot on the line, use your body weight to rock forward and stand up without using the ground for assistance. Strong core, abs, and leg strength is needed for this move.

18. Splits

Self-explanatory, do a split across the slackline.

19. Hand balancing

Balance sideways on the line using your hands. You can also try for a complete handstand if you have more strength.

20. Blindfolded

Walk across a slackline... with a blindfold on.

21. Highlining

A slackline trick within itself and extreme sport, highlining takes some skill. This takes the sport up high and should only be done by experts with proper ridding and safety equipment. Highlining adds significant risk of injury or even death.

To Conclude

Each of these slackline tricks are only scratching the surface at everything you can do. Get out there and get creative with different tricks and moves. Gather some friends and enjoy the fun outdoor activity of slacklining!
