If you are getting ready for a weekend getaway or planning for a long vacation, choosing the right hotel and room type is probably on the top of your checklist. Your choices depend on your budget, the size of your party, and of course on your overall aesthetic. If you know how many people you are traveling with, then you will be able to find out what size room you need and the price for each.
Hotels price their rooms depending on how many beds and the types of beds. They also price rooms based on the furnishings and interior design. Below, I have listed 18 different types of hotel rooms so that you can choose what is best for you!
1. Single Room
A room assigned to one person or a couple. These rooms usually only have one bed, and the size of the bed depends on the hotel. In some single rooms, there are twin beds, double beds, or even a queen. So, be sure to check with the hotel of your choice for further clarification.
2. Double Room
A room assigned to two people. These rooms can have one double bed, or two twin beds depending on the hotel.
3. Triple Room
A room that can accommodate three people. Triple rooms can come equipped with three twin beds, one double bed and a twin, or two double beds.
4. Quad Room
A room assigned to four people. These rooms are usually filled with two double beds to accommodate the four persons.
5. Queen Room
These are rooms with a queen-sized bed. So, a queen room can house one or more guests.
6. King Room
This is a room with a king-size bed that can be assigned also to one or more people.
7. Twin Room
Not to be confused with a single or double room, a twin room specifically comes with two twin size beds. They house two people.
8. Hollywood Twin Room
Hollywood twin rooms can accommodate two people with two twin beds that are joined by the same headboard. So, these are good for couples or travelers in a group of two.
9. Double-Double Room
These are rooms with two double beds that accommodate two to four people. Some hotels will also provide two queen beds. These are ideal for families of four traveling with young children.
10. Studio Room
A bit smaller than a suite, studio rooms are like fully furnished apartments. It will have a bed and sometimes a couch that can be converted into a sleeper for extra guests. Depending on the hotel studio rooms may also have a small kitchenette with a refrigerator, a stove, and some basic kitchen tools. Also, at most hotels, the studio room can be fully serviced like the hotel apartments.
Apartment Style Rooms:
11. Suites
Hotel suites come in different sizes and with different amenities, but basically they are rooms with a separate living space. So, a bedroom or two with an attached living room. These also possess a small kitchenette for guests to access.
12. Junior Suites
Junior suites are rooms with a bed and a small seating area. Also, depending on the hotel, the junior suite can have its bedroom separated from the living space.
13. The Presidential Suite
You know that suite always mentioned in songs? Yeah, that’s this one right here. The Presidential Suite is the most expensive room in a hotel. It is large and lavish with the bedroom and living room separated. These suites have specific amenities and services that are curated only for guests staying in the presidential suite. Fun fact, the presidential suite received its name during Woodrow Wilson’s Presidency. He often traveled outside of Washington and felt it important that hotels conform to the needs and class of a president.
14. Apartments
That’s right, for all of you planning long vacations this may be the room type for you! Hotels offer apartments for those with extended stays. Not every hotel offers this, but hotels that target long-stay guests will have your needs met. Everything you’d want in an actual apartment you’ll find here. You’ll have access to larger kitchens, a dining area, a living room or media center, a washer and dryer, and housekeeping is available certain times a week. Think of it like an air-bnb, but with all the hotel benefits!
15. Connecting Rooms
Connecting rooms are, you guessed it, rooms with a connecting door in between them. They still have individual doors to get in from the outside though. These are also great for families who don’t want to have to walk through the hallway to move between rooms.
16. The Murphy Room
Murphey rooms come equipped with a murphy bed that folds out of a closet. These are great if you want to “put the bed away” and have extra living space when you have guests over.
17. A Cabana Room
Calling your tropical fantasy! These rooms come with private access to a pool, or depending on the hotel, access to your own private pool! These are great room options when you are on a summer vacation on the water.
18. Villas
Following the tropical vibes, we have villas. These aren’t necessarily rooms, as they are like their own small home or cottage. You may find these at resort hotels or popular destination areas. Suitable for families or couples, villas come with bedrooms, living rooms, a kitchen, and a private pool or balcony. Villas are a great way to enjoy a tropical getaway!
